lyrics

I'm afraid of sad songs
Afraid of what they'll do
Bury into my subconscious
Modify my moods
So I made a firm decision
That I'd hardly ever listen
And I wouldn't sing them to myself
Or you

But somehow I must have swallowed a seed
It stuck in my throat
Now it's growing and spreading like weeds
Putting down roots
Bearing sour fruits
Shedding skeleton leaves

I'm afraid of bleeding
Afraid of broken bones
Scared of laryngitis
Terrified of carpal tunnel syndrome
So I don't take risks
Trust only things I'm certain exist
Safety in small numbers
Attraction without opposites

But somehow I thought I'd thickened my skin
Formed my own armour
In the hope it wouldn't let harm in
I thought I was safe
It seems that was quite the mistake
We're far beyond the solstice
And the nights are starting earlier each day
